The peak of her collegiate track career came at the 1984 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She achieved a sprint quadruple by winning the 100 m, 200 m, 4 × 100 m relay and mile relay titles. In 1982, the NCAA women’s track competition was established. Givens participated in the NCAA Women’s Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She placed third in 200 m and seventh in 100-meter dash. Givens was also a member of the 4×100-meter relay team that came in second. The Florida State Seminoles track & field team was able to take third place at the championship’s college rankings thanks to this performance. She won the Penn Relays collegiate 100 m that season. She finished third in the 200m at the 1983 NCAA Championships, moved up one spot to sixth in 100m, and won both relay titles. This resulted in Seminoles finishing second behind the UCLA Bruins.
