Ambassador Ramzy was a member of the Board of the School of Economics and Political Science of Cairo University from 2007 to 2008. He contributed to op- ed articles in the AlSharq Al Awsat Arabic newspaper, the Al-Masry Al-Youm (and Al-Shorouk), as well as the Financial Times. He served as the Egyptian Permanent Representative at the UN and other international organisations in Vienna, where he was also Governor of the International Atomic Energy Agency Board (2003-2007). He also served as the Deputy Chief Of Mission at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington D.C. (1993-1997), the Political Counselor in Moscow (1986-1990), and the Second Secretary at UN Permanent Mission in New York (1978-82). He also served as a political affairs officer in the Department of Disarmament Affairs of the United Nations in New York (1982-83).

His main areas of expertise lie in conflict resolution, mediation, international security, disarmament and non- proliferation.
