He founded NANOKER research SL in 2011. They manufacture advanced technical ceramics, micromaterials, and nanocomposites for medical, optical, and other extreme applications.
He was named general manager of Asturian Materials Techchnology Center ITMA in 2009, and remained there until 2011, when he took over the CINN’s management.

In 1986, he received his bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Zaragoza. He then moved to France and joined the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees of Lyon. There he began his research on the thermomechanical properties of advanced ceramics. He received his PhD in Physics at the National Distance Education University. Directors J.S.Moya and S. de Aza. In 1991, he was appointed director of Ceramics and Refractories of the Instituto Tecnologico de Materiales de Asturias. This Spanish technological research center held the position until 1994. He received his PhD in Materials Engineering at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees de Lyon that December. His thesis was titled “Mechanical behavior of Mullite and MulliteZirconia composites Obtained through Reactive Sintering.”
He joined the Spanish National Research Council’s National Institute of Coal (INCAR), in 1994. There he created and supervised the Department of Nanostructured Ceramics, until 2008. He was made full-time research professor at the CSIC in 2008 and became the founding director of the Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Research Center, (CINN).
In Decembre 2019 he was appointed Delegate of the Spanish National Research Council to the EU in Brussels.
