After his vocation training at Bosch, and his military service at Field Marshal Rommel Barracks in Augustdorf, Brinkhaus studied economics at University of Hohenheim. He is a qualified tax advisor and holds an Economics degree.
Since 2009, Brinkhaus has been elected to the German Bundestag. He succeeds Hubert Deittert. He was the Finance Committee’s rapporteur for his parliamentary group on insurances and banks from 2009 to 2013. He was the chairman of the group from 2014 onwards. He was the main spokesperson for financial and budgetary issues.
In addition to his committee assignments, Brinkhaus chaired the German-Indian Parliamentary Friendship Group from 2014 until 2017. He has since been serving as the group’s deputy chairman.
Since 2016 Brinkhaus has also been the deputy head of the CDU in North Rhine- Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, under the leadership of chairman Armin Laschet. In the negotiations to form a coalition government under the leadership of Chancellor Angela Merkel following the 2017 federal elections, Brinkhaus was part of the CDU delegation.
In his early years of his career, Brinkhaus worked for Deloitte in Hannover and Babcock Borsig at Oberhausen. He also worked at Medion in Essen as well as Mulheim. He became a tax advisor in Gutersloh in 2004.
