Rakhshanda Jailil, born 21 July 1963, is an Indian writer, critic, and literary historian. Her most notable works include Invisible City: India’s hidden monuments, and Release & Other Stories, a collection of short stories. Oxford University Press published her PhD on the Progressive Writers Movement as It Is Reflected In Urdu Literature. Jalil is the founder of Hindustani Awaaz which promotes Hindi-Urdu literature, culture and arts.

Jalil graduated in 1986 from Miranda House, Delhi University. Her career began as a lecturer at Khalsa College. She worked as a lecturer at Aligarh Muslim University (1987), an editorial assistant at Tata McGraw-Hill Book Publishing Company (1987-89), a sub-editor at Tata McGraw-Hill Book Publishing Company (1987-90), and assistant editor at the Publications Division at the India International Centre (1990-March 1995). Later, she joined Jamia Millia Islamia as the director of their outreach programme. From 2007 to 2009, she co-edited Third Frame: Literature, Culture, and Society, a quarterly journal published and distributed annually by Cambridge University Press. She was a senior associate fellow at Council of Social Development in New Delhi and an associate editor of Social Change (Jan 2011-Jan 2012.).

Harper Collins published her first collection of fiction, Release & Other Stories in 2011. It received high praise from critics. She is currently engaged in an investigation of Indian secularism.
