He was named Dean of Harvard College in July 2014. Harvard instituted strict restrictions in May 2016 on undergraduates who were members of fraternities or other gender-exclusive organizations that are not formally affiliated to the College. Some of these organizations are known as “final club” While some of these fraternities have been around for over 200 years, Harvard only began admitting women in 1977. Drew Gilpin Faust, Dean Khurana and Dean Khurana worked together to create the new policy. Khurana stated that the clubs’ exclusion of women is unacceptable in the 21st Century. Students who belong to these clubs are not eligible for leadership positions in Harvard student organizations, such as sports teams. They also cannot be eligible for Harvard endorsement required for fellowships like Rhodes or Marshall fellowships.
He is co-editor of Handbook of Leadership Theory and Practice (2010), published Harvard Business School Press, and Handbook for Teaching Leadership: Knowing, doing and Being (2012), published Sage Publications.

Terry Award from the Academy of Management.
Khurana was born and raised in India. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Cornell in industrial relations, and his AM in sociology at Harvard. In 1998, he received his PhD in organizational behaviour through a joint program of Harvard Business School and Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
