Khandelwal began his media career by making documentaries, writing scripts, and then directing them. Doordarshan featured one of his documentaries, Samarpan, a fictional series. It was about paramilitary forces in India, and won an award. Khandelwal also hosts reality shows. He hosted the 2006 Indian version of Deal Or No Deal, Deal Ya No Deal with Mandira Bedi. In 2007 and 2008, he hosted two seasons on the reality talk show Sacch Ka Saamna. He was also the brand ambassador for Super Cars on National Geographic Channel and host it. Khandelwal hosted a documentary in 2016. The Legend Of Jaggannath is a behind-the scenes look at Rath Yatra, an Indian religious festival. He sang the promo version of “Teri Yaad”, from his film Fever in 2016.

Zee News reviewed his performance as “In this film, Rajeev has proven, yet again, the limit to which his acting skills reach, which – no doubts about that – is the sky.” The film grossed ₹ 10.9 crore (US$1.5 million) domestically.

For his work in the film, he received the nomination of Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. In 2011, Khandelwal had two film releases.
