Raheem Kassam, born 1 August 1986, is a British far-right activist, ex-editor-in- chief at Breitbart London and former chief advisor to Nigel Farage, former leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP). Kassam was a candidate in the November 2016 party leadership election, but he resigned on 31 October 2016. Most recently, he was the global editor in chief of Human Events.

Kassam’s media and political strategies were based on U.S far right “shock and terrible” tactics. He openly advised UKIP leader Nigel Farage in 2015 to make controversial comments about HIV patients. Kassam is a constant critic of Sadiq Khan, Labour Party Mayor of London. He accuses him of making the city a “Shithole” while falsely accusing him with links to terror and extremism.

In December 2016, Kassam admitted to editing his own Wikipedia page, a practice which is in violation of Wikipedia rules.

Kassam “suspended”, or withdrew, from the leadership contest on 31 October 2016, a few hours before nominations closed. Having concluded that he had only a slight chance of winning, citing insufficient funds, he criticised the media attention he received and was critical of what he claimed was media intimidation of his parents. He also questioned the fairness of a UKIP ballot. “When Times journalists show up at my elderly parents’ house, intimidating them, I draw the line,” he said.

After his time with the Conservative Party, Kassam was a UK Independence Party voter in mid-2013. He joined the party in the early part of the next year and quickly became Nigel Farage’s senior adviser.
