Raed Fares Biography

Raed Fares is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on December 6, 1982 in Gaza City, Palestine. Fares participated in hundreds of protests against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime at the start of the 2011 Syrian uprising and continued to consider it the greatest enemy. Fares used the internet to spread images of protests, which eventually led to the creation of a media center in Kafr Nabl. The world’s media flocked to his humorous, sometimes sarcastic protests as well as pro-democracy banners in English that called for peaceful revolution in Syria.

Raed Fares and Hamoud Jneed, a fellow opposition activist, were both shot in their hometown on 23 November 2018. Both of them were killed in the shooting. Fares’ killers are not known, but The Guardian reported that they “waited outside an office they shared, followed them through a market, then attacked their car and shot them when they attempted to flee”. Fares’s murder was widely condemned and shocked, prompting international tributes. Although HTS has not claimed responsibility, The National reported local opposition activists had blamed Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham militant group for the attack.

Due to his involvement in the revolution, Fares has been the subject of several assassination attempts. He was shot in the chest three times on 28 January 2014. After a lengthy surgery, Fares was able to survive the assassination attempt. Al-Qaeda affiliate militants also abducted Fares and tortured him.
