Sparta Rotterdam was qualified for the playoffs, where Bouaouzan was back on the pitch. The final and final play-off match saw Sparta beat Helmond Sport 1-0. This secured them a place in the Eredivisie 2005-06 season.

- After being sidelined on two occasions towards the end of the 2006–07 season, he then scored again on 22 April 2007, in a 5–2 loss against Ajax. At the end of the 2006–07 season, Bouaouzan went on to make a total of 28 appearances and scoring 2 times.
After agreeing a move, it was announced on 30 August 2007 that Rachid signed a three-year contract with Wigan Athletic. The transfer fee was rumoured to be in the region of £300,000. It was revealed that Rachid was on the verge of moving to Feyenoord, having passed a medical before joining Wigan Athletic instead.
Bouaouzan made his debut in Eredivisie in 2005-06, and he started the entire game against Feyenoord. The club decided to sign a new contract after his performance at the club. He scored his first goal of 2006 in a 3-2 victory over Willem II. His future was uncertain after he made 29 appearances in the 2005-06 season and scored once. Bouaouzan was also linked to a departure from the club. He signed a two year contract in May 2006, ending all speculation about his future.

Bouaouzan was the son of Moroccan parents and was born in Rotterdam. After starting his football career at SVV/SMC, he moved to Sparta Rotterdam where he began his professional career. In the 2003-04 season, he made his professional debut as a Sparta Rotterdam player. For four seasons, he played for his local team.
Bouaouzan, who was playing in the Eerste Divisie during his second season, made Dutch headlines after a heavy foul on Niels Kokomeijer, his opponent, on December 17, 2004. Kokmeijer suffered a broken leg and was forced to quit professional football. Sparta Rotterdam suspended Bouaouzan until the end of the season. This was in addition to the 10 match ban that the KNVB had given him. The Dutch government also took Bouaouzan to court for battery. This was a rare moment in Dutch football history. Bouaouzan was sentenced for six months. This was confirmed by the Dutch highest court in April 2008. He was also forced to file for bankruptcy by the court ordering him to compensate Kokmeijer. Bouaouzan later regretted his actions, claiming that he had never intentionally hurt anyone.
Bouaouzan joined the Moroccan national team in their preparation on October 2006 in Netherlands. He has played for the Dutch U21-team, but remains eligible to play for both senior national teams.
