Flowers was able to pitch perfectly. Flowers started her formal music training at the Southern California Conservatory of Music when she was 4 1/2 years of age. She studied music theory, music history and Braille music codes. Later, she took courses at The Academy of Music for the Blind.

Flowers was a flute player in middle school and highschool, as well as the county honor band. Flowers also learned how to play the saxophone, mallet and other instruments. Her high school years also saw her receive scholarships to the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Camp, Stanford Jazz Residency, as well as being a finalist in two Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards for Jazz Instrumental category. She was also 2nd in the Ventura County Student Jazz competition. Private instruction in advanced jazz improvisation is available through Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. Flowers received the Semper Fidelis award and John Philip Sousa awards upon her graduation from Hueneme high school in 2012.
