RK Damodaran was the son of Manjapra Kothanath Kalathil Ramankutty Naair and Palakkad Pallatheri Kappadathu Puthanveettil Kalyani Kutti Amma. He was born in Kochi on 1 August 1953. His family, or shifted to Kochi from Palakkad, was deeply influenced and influenced by the rich cultural landscape of his home. Rajalakshmy, a native of North Paravoor, was RK’s wife. Anagha, their daughter, is currently residing in Kochi (Kerala).
He also wrote lyrics for Malayalam films and published four books. Two of them were collections of his poetry, “Athunathanam”, and “Kadharaavaneeyam”. Two other collections of devotional songs were “Amme Narayana”, and “Aravana Madhuram”. RK also wrote two dramas: Poorapparambu (and Kannakiyude Mula). He also learned Chenda from Babu Kanjilasseri in Kozhikode, Kerala’s traditional drum instrument.
RK was selected to be a member of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy from 2001 to 2004, which is managed by the Government of Kerala. RK has been an executive member of Bharat Bhavan since 2012. It is located under the Department of Culture of Government of Kerala. Since 2016, he is also an executive member at Samastha Kerala Sahithya Parishad.

R K Damodaran (Malayalam : aake daamoodr), was born on the 1st of August 1953. He is a poet, lyricist, and has mainly worked in the Malayalam film industry. From 1982 to 2013, he was also a Mathrubhumi journalist. From 1982 to 2013, he was a journalist in Mathrubhumi. He has written lyrics for nearly 3600 songs, including two Sanskrit ones. He has written songs for more than 100 Malayalam movies, including Ravivarma Chithrathin and Thalam Ttiya Tharatt.
He studied BA Malayalam at Maharajas College, Kochi and Sanskrit languages at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi. In 1977, he was a second-year BA student at Maharaja’s College. He first entered the film music industry. His debut song was “Ravivarma Chithrathin Rathi Bhavame”, which he sang for the 1978 movie ‘Raju Rahim”. Recorded at AVM-C theatre Chennai on November 2, 1977, it was the song that he recorded. He quickly made a name for hisself in the Malayalam movie business. RK wrote 118 songs over a forty-year career and worked with music masters such as Devarajan Master M. S. Viswanathan Ilayaraja, Arjunan Master Johnson, Raveendran Syam, Jerry Amaldev S. P. Venkitesh Jerry Amaldev, Perumbavoor G. Raveendranath Vidyadharan Mohan Sithara T. S. Radhakrishnan Vidya Sagar K.P. Udayabhanu and Deepak Dev, Berny Ignatious, and so forth. His last film was ‘Cleopatra,’ which was released in 2013.
