Quintin Perry Mikell, born September 16, 1980, is an American football safety who has played eleven seasons in the National Football League. He played college football at Boise State University and was signed by Philadelphia Eagles in 2003 as an undrafted-free agent. He was a member of the Eagles for eight years, the St. Louis Rams two seasons and the Carolina Panthers one season.
On October 23, 2005, the Eagles were trailing the San Diego Chargers 17-13. He blocked a placekicker Nate Kaeding’s field goal attempt. His teammate Matt Ware returned 65 yard for a touchdown, which secured a win of 20-17. This was the first time that an Eagles blocked field goal was returned for touchdown.
In a Christmas Day win at Dallas in 2006, Mikell propelled the Eagles with a key tackle for loss of running back Marion Barber on fourth down to finish off a goal-line stand.
He has posted a team-leading 108 special teams tackles since joining the Eagles, including a career-high 35 in 2006. As such, Mikell has been voted by his teammates as the Eagles special teams MVP in 2005 and 2006.
Mikell made his first interception in his career on November 28, 2004 when he outjumping tight end Jeremy Shockey to intercept a pass from Eli Manning in the end zone. This was late in the first quarter vs. New York Giants. This play allowed the Eagles to maintain a lead of 7-6 at halftime. Philadelphia won 27-6 to clinch their fourth consecutive NFC East title.
