Qasim al-Araji is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on March 3, 1964 in Kut, Wasit Governorate, Iraq. He was born in Kut, south Iraq, around 1963. He studied accounting at Ayatollah Molahhari University, Iran, and Islamic studies in the Imam Kadhim Institute.

He claimed that the United States supported the Islamic State of Iraq & the Levant between 2014 and 2015. He also stated repeatedly, “The U.S. supports ISIS in Syria and funds the group in Iraq.” He added, “The duality of America in terms of fighting ISIS is very clear. The U.S. government supports Kurdistan in battling ISIS but refuses to support the Iraqi security forces and tribesmen in battling ISIS.”

He was approved by Parliament as the head of the Iraqi Interior Ministry on Jan 30, 2017. He replaced Mohammed Al-Ghabban who had resigned. Upon taking office he ousted 30,000 people whose “behavior was not conducive to a professional security force.” Al-Araji showed willingness to work with both the United States and Sunnis. He appointed Sunnis to key positions in the Ministry and stated that Iraq continues to need American help. Following the 2018 Iraqi parliamentary election, Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi succeeded al-Araji as head of the ministry on an interim basis.

He was detained again by the US forces in 2007 and kept at Camp Bucca for nearly two years. WikiLeaks published a secret cable from the U.S. Embassy, Baghdad, January 19, 2007. It stated that U.S. forces had “good information based upon multiple sources” and that al-Araji “involved with smuggling, distribution, and targeting of explosives.” He was also “also suspected in assassination cells.” For lack of evidence, he was released again.
