Koehn was hired as a free-agent by the Washington Mystics in 2005. On April 30, 2009, Koehn signed the contract for a training camp in the Phoenix Mercury. On June 3, 2009, Koehn was released together with two other players. Prolonging her playing career professionally, Laurie played during the 2010-11 season for “Utex Row”, a women’s basketball team from Poland. The team finished the season in 12th place of 13 teams in the league. Koehn however, played extremely well throughout all 14 games, scoring 17.9 scores per match, and scoring the average 36.4 minutes per game.

The family was raised from Newton, Kansas, Koehn was a student at Moundridge High School, located in Moundridge, Kansas. Koehn earned his degree from Kansas State University in 2005. When she was at Kansas State, Koehn achieved the All-Big 12 Second Team (2005 and 2004), CoSIDA Academic All-American (2004), Big 12 All-Academic First Team (2005), Kansas State, Big 12 and NCAA all-time record for three-pointers shot (392). She made 132 of 135 three- pointers within 5 minutes. In the course of the course of her career at college, she made 392 three-pointers. This made her one of the NCAA Division I record-holder for attempted three-point shots (tied to Heather Butler), a record that she kept until broken by Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis in 2015.

Koehn was a part of the USA Women’s U18 squad that took home the gold medal at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. The event took place in July of 2000, and the USA team beat Cuba to take the title. Koehn was in the starting lineup for every game and scored 12.4 scores per match, the third-highest after Alana Beard and Diana Taurasi.
