Proscovia Nalweyiso is one of the most popular and richest Military Personnel who was born on June 1, 1954 in Rakai District, Uganda. In June 1954, she was born to a family of 20 children in Mpigi District. She began working in her hometown as a teacher and typist. She became an active member in her time with the Ugandan Democratic Party.
The unit Nalweyiso commanded was part of the NRA forces that attacked Mbarara’s military barracks in 1985. The NRA Women’s Wing settled at Fort Portal after that attack, and remained there until the end of the war in 1986.
In February 2019, in a promotions exercise that involved over 2,000 men and women of the UPDF, she was promoted from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General.
In 1983, a unit of NRA female fighters was established and Nalweyiso was named its commandant. In 1983, the unit was moved from Luweero District, Central Uganda to Western Uganda.
