Prima Rusdi and 300 other filmmakers, including Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza, returned their Festival Film Indonesia awards to the Minister for Arts and Culture in January 2007. This was as a protest against Indonesia’s government’s lack of transparency and support and the restrictive policies that were being applied to the Indonesian movie industry. This group is also known as MFI (Masyarakat Film Indonesia), or the Indonesian Film Society Movement. She was a member of a jury that Jan Harlan, a British producer, chaired at the 2007 International Film Festival (Bratislava), Slovakia. Royston Tan (Singapore), Klara Issova, actress (Czech Republic), and Zuzana Liova (Slovakia) were also members.

Rusdi was a mentor for a series film workshops for teens and students that Rusdi led throughout 2006. This included a group of detainees from a Jakarta juvenile correctional centre. A screenplay she wrote for a short film called “(Almost (A Miscarriage)” was directed by Lasja Fauzia. It is distributed by a Singaporean distribution firm that takes the film to all international festivals. Ann Lee, a Malaysian stage director/writer, helped her translate Lee’s script “Hang Li Poh” to Indonesian. The International Women Playwrights Conference, November 2006, featured a portion of the adaptation. Rusdi, along with Farishad Latjuba and Alex Sihar, was also one of the programmers for the Southeast Asian Short Film Competitions in Jakarta later that year. Festival Film Indonesia 2006 nominated her screenplay “Garasi”.

Rusdi was raised in Jakarta, Indonesia and was born in Gottingen in West Germany. Rusdi graduated from the University of Indonesia and holds a master’s in Communications from Canberra University, Australia. She originally wanted to be a journalist. After quitting her job at a multinational agency as a copywriter, she began her writing career in 2000. During her career as a copywriter, she won many top advertising awards. With Riri Riza (director), she co-wrote Eliana (2002), her first film. During this time, she also wrote What’s Up with Love? Jujur Prananto (2001). Two Festival Film Indonesia awards were won by Rusdi in 2004 for Eliana, Eliana (shared director Riri Riza), and for The Big Celebration a teleplay. Miles Films produced Eliana and The Big Celebration, which Rusdi described as her “film school”. She co-wrote Waking Banyu in 2005 with Rayya Makarim and Garasi, a coming of age film, was produced by Mira Lesmana, What’s with Love producer. Garasi is Agung Sentausa’s directorial debut. He was a close friend of Rusdi and also got his film training at Miles Films.

Her first book, The Journey, was published in 2005 by Terrant Books. KATAKITA published her second book, 1095 Magical Days in 2006. Prima’s third book was published by Gramedia in 2007. The book is called Bikin Film Kata 40 Pekerja Film, or (Indonesian Films According To 40 Indonesian Filmmakers). She is currently working on scripts.
