Preston Burpo is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on September 26, 1972 in Bethesda, Maryland, United States. Preston Burpo, a former American soccer player, is currently the goalkeeper coach of the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer.

Burpo decided to take part in the 2010 MLS Re-Entry Draft after New England rejected his contract option for 2010. Burpo was made a free agent after he wasn’t selected for the Re-Entry Draft. After his injury, he did not participate in any competitive soccer games.

On January 22, 2010, Burpo was part of a four-player trade that sent him and Cory Gibbs to New England Revolution in exchange for Wells Thompson and the rights to Jeff Larentowicz. He opened the season as the Revs’ starting goalkeeper while Matt Reis was out injured.

Burpo spent the 2011 season as a scout for the United States Soccer Federation. On October 3, 2011, he was announced as the goalkeeper coach for Major League Soccer expansion side Montreal Impact. He was the goalkeeper coach at D.C. United in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Under his tutelage, Bill Hamid became the 2014 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

Burpo signed his contract with Major League Soccer on March 17, 2006. He was to play for C.D. Chivas USA. He was traded to San Jose Earthquakes on November 26, 2007 in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. Before being traded to San Jose Earthquakes, he had never played in a match. He was also traded with a fourth round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft for Kelly Gray.

From 1992 to 1995, Burpo was a collegiate soccer player at Southern New Hampshire University. He had a goals against average (1.19) and 38 shutouts during his time at Southern New Hampshire University. In 1992, he was the first Penman ever to be awarded All-Region honours.

After graduating from college in 1995, he played briefly for the New Hampshire Phantoms and Boston Storm USISL teams. He also briefly represented Harbor View FC in Jamaica. He signed with the Seattle Sounders of USL First Division in

1997. This was where he would continue to play for nine years. Burpo played 143 games with the Sounders during his career, scoring 38 shutouts and 631 saves. He also had a 1.19 GAA.

On May 29, 2010, in a game against New York Red Bulls, Burpo’s tibia and fibula snapped when he collided with NYRB striker Dane Richards while challenging for the ball at the edge of his penalty area; many observers compared the injury to the one which ended the career of American football star Joe Theismann in 1985, and the similar double-break which ended the career of English Premier League player David Busst in 1996.
