Lucknow’s cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. S. S. Rajput, a Dr. Ram Manohar Lihia Institute for Medical Sciences, stated that Thakur had undergone a bilateral mastectomy in order to prevent recurrence. He said he had performed three operations on Thakur. To cure her breast cancer, she had undergone two operations to remove her breasts. Her claim that Panchagavya and cow urine cured her breast cancer was criticized.
Following the 2008 Malegaon bombings, in which six people were killed and over 100 injured, Thakur was arrested as one of the prime accused in October 2008 under terrorism charges.
She is accused of the 2008 Malegaon bombings where 10 people were killed and 82 more were injured. She was arrested on terror charges after her bike was found to be used in the bomb blast. She is currently under trial for multiple charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. In 2017, she was granted bail on health grounds following the dropping of some of the serious charges by the National Investigation Agency.
Mumbai’s Anti Terrorist Squad claimed Thakur had formed a group to retaliate for the 2006 Mumbai train explosions. Her motorcycle was also used in the bomb blast. Thakur was arrested on the basis of this motorcycle.

Pragya Singh Thakur, better known as Sadhvi Pragya (born February 2, 1970), is an Indian politician and Member to Parliament for Bhopal. She belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was the prime suspect in the Malegaon blasts. During college, she was an active member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Later, she joined various affiliated organisations of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Thakur was educated at Lahar College (Bhind) and joined Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad in 1993. This is the student wing to the Sangh Parivar. In 1997, she was promoted to the post of state secretary. She worked for Rashtrawadi Sana and the Hindu Jagran Mandach. Durga Vahini was her women’s wing at Hindu organisation Bajrang Dal. She is also a founding member of Vande Mataram Jan Kalyan Samiti which is an organisation linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
