Ulrich Schroder, born 1 January 1964, is an acid jazz musician who plays a variety of instruments, including pandeiros and Fender Rhodes. His CDs One Day Deep, and Pyramid in Your Backyard won numerous awards and received worldwide recognition. “Sigh”, which was included on the One Day Deep CD, and as a single, remained in the Billboards for more than 70 weeks.
He was a reed player, composer, and percussionist with Bayuba Cante, an international group that mixed Afro-Cuban Santeria roots with flamenco and rumba. They also released 2 albums (Network-DE), and toured in Europe, Cuba, and Canada.
In 1999 he released his first solo album, the meditative ‘Touched by Love’. In that year he also started following lessons in Bansuri (Indian bamboo flute) with Indian Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, who continues to be his teacher and great inspiration.
In 1999 Praful joined the experimental dance formation Project 2000, a drum and bass group which experience regional success in the Netherlands. That year Project 2000 won the prestigious Dutch Heineken Cross Over Music Award. 1999 also saw the release of the Project 2000 album ‘It’s about time’ and 2 singles with Universal/Polydor.
Praful spent 10 years in Brazil after his India travels. His music style was heavily influenced by Samba. After his return to Amsterdam in 1993, Praful worked mostly with Brazilian and Latin artists and groups.

He moved to the Netherlands in 1987 to study jazz saxophone, flute and music theory at the Amsterdam School of Arts (Hilversum Conservatory), now AHK. He was instructed by Friederike Darius, Ferdinand Povel and Rob Madna.
He received his Conservatory degree in 1992. In India, he spent six months learning and meditation in the Ashram of Osho the enlightened teacher Osho. He received the spiritual name Praful, which he described as symbolizing a “new beginning” and meaning “blossoming”, during this period.
From 1997 on he was drawn to electronica and newer developments in music like trip hop, dance and drum and bass.
