He was a Nabarangpur MP in 15th Lok Sabha and is currently the State Vice President of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee. Prior to that, he held the offices of President of Zilla Parishad, Secretary of Indian Youth Congress and State President of Orissa Pradesh Youth Congress. He asked 1160 questions in Parliament during 15th Lok Sabha. This was the third most questions asked during that Lok Sabha tenure. According to The Week magazine, he asked 501 questions during his first two years.
The Congress party nominated him to contest the Lok Sabha elections 2009. He is from Nabarangpur, Odisha. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 by a margin 30830 votes. He was a prominent parliamentarian and played an important role in procuring maize at MSP from Nabarangpur farmer during his tenure. He also played a key role in the promotion of Sugar Cane farmers at Nayagarh and Baramba.
He was named Secretary of Indian Youth Congress in 2008 by AICC Vice President and MP Rahul Gandhi. In addition, he was given the charge of Jharkhand state Young Congress.
