He was transferred to Hellas Verona F.C. in 1982. (1982-85) He helped the team win a historic Serie A title under Osvaldo bagnoli. This was while playing alongside key players like Roberto Tricella or Antonio Di Gennaro. Fanna joined Inter (1985-1989) in 1985. Giovanni Trapattoni was his manager. He helped Inter win the 1988-89 Serie A title. However, he made only 13 appearances.
He made his Serie A debut in 1977 with Turin club, moving to Serie A’s Juventus (1977-1982). He failed to achieve his domestic success and was frequently played out of position. He was able to make it to the starting line-up during his final few seasons at Juventus. He also won three Serie A titles with his team during 1977-78, 1981-81 and 1982 seasons. Also, he won a Coppa Italia during the 1978-1979 season.

Fanna was born in Grimacco, Province of Udine. He spent his youth with Udinese. Fanna, aged 17, moved to Atalanta (1975-1977), making 20 appearances. He also scored a goal during his first season in Serie B. The young winger was a key player in the Bergamo’s 1976-77 season.
Fanna represented Italy under-21 on 13 occasions, scoring 3 goals. He also participated in the 1978 and 1980 UEFA European Under-21 Championships. In 1977, he made his debut. Between 1979 and 1984, he also played for the Italian Under-23 Olympic team on six occasions. He scored 3 goals. Italy’s 1984 Summer Olympics saw him compete with them. The team came in fourth after reaching the semifinals. Between 1983 and 1985, he represented the senior Italian side 14 times.
During the 1989–90 season, he returned to Verona (1989–93) under Bagnoli, as he was unable to prevent the club’s relegation to Serie B that year. The following season, he helped his club to return to Serie A, however, during the 1991–92 season, the club was relegated once again. He retired in 1993, after a mid-table finish in Serie B with Verona that season.
