In 2008 the South African painter Bess Rheeders discovered van Wyk de Vries, and painted a series of paintings inspired by the songs on his first album. These were only displayed to the public once, and have all been sold into private collections since, apart from one painting, which she gave to the artist. In 2014, the Centurion Arts Association also presented an exhibition of works inspired by the lyrics of Piet van Wyk de Vries, as sung by Mathys Roets.
In September 2008 he released his second solo album, called “‘n Pyl deur seil met vuur” (An arrow through sail with fire), and surprised attendants at a concert with a collaboration on stage with singer/songwriter Andre G. Nel. He has also in 2009/10 collaborated with the Coleske brothers on songs for the singer Guillome and others. In 2011 the artist Ricus Nel recorded the song “MadeleinMadelein” for his own solo album.
After starting his career in music, he was a frontman for the band Flying Circus. But he soon switched to studio design and music production. He built the first digital studio in Africa that Sting Music had ever seen in Johannesburg in 2000. He used the Pro Tools-based studio to create the first Afrikaans album of Dozi (Hendrik Olpman), entitled “Op Aanvraag”. It has since been one of the most popular albums in that genre. Stef Kruger, a songwriter, was also able to launch his career with this album.

Since 1997, EMI music Pub (SA), has managed van Wyk de Vries music publishing and his “Triplane Music” publishing label. Van Wyk de Vries received one of the most significant non-recoupable advances for a South African songwriter in 1997 as an incentive to sign with EMI Publishing. EMI managed all publishing of all songs van Wyk de Vries composed over the years. The only exception to this song, “This Life”, was penned and sung in part by PJ Powers and published by Sting Music. After EMI Publishing was purchased by Sony/BMG in 2011, the company renewed its contracts for van Wyk de Vries’ publishing rights for at least five more years.
