Piet Jacobus van den Walt, a Namibian politician and businessman, was born 14 January 1966 in Okahandja. He has been the Deputy minister of National Planning since 2018.
In 2014, he retained his seat as a parliamentary member and was appointed Deputy Minister of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development. He was appointed Deputy Minister for National Planning in February 2018, following a cabinet reshuffle.

Van der Walt was born in Okahandja, and attended Okahandja’s primary school. The Higher Technical School in Windhoek was his secondary school. He was a diesel mechanic by trade, and graduated in 1989 from Windhoek Technical College. He holds an engineering diploma, in mechanical drawing and machines, and the properties of metals.
Van der Walt, a White Afrikaner Namibian, began his association with SWAPO as a business partner after independence in 1990. He was number 42 on the SWAPO parliamentary list prior to the 2009 National Assembly elections and was subsequently elected. He was a member of the SWAPO Youth Liga.
