Peter Ramsauer is one of the most popular and richest Member of the German Bundestag who was born on February 10, 1954 in Munich, Germany. Peter Ramsauer (born 10 February 1954) is an German politician in the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) who was the Federal Minister for Transport, Building and Urban Development in the second Merkel cabinet of the second Merkel administration. He is called”the self-assigned “shepherd” of the German language, aiming to improve it, particularly of English loanwords.
Ramsauer won the federal election of 1990 and is an elected participant in the Bundestag parliament since that time. From 1994 until 1998 the member was on the Parliament’s Council of Elders, which includes among its duties sets the agenda for legislative sessions daily and assigns committee chairpersons according to the representation of each party. From 1998 until 2005, he was the CSU Chief Whip for the CDU/CSU Parliamentary group.
Ramsauer was elected to the head of the Bundestag group of CSU parliamentarians in 2005, succeeding Michael Glos; in that capacity, he led the CDU/CSU parliamentary group with his co-chair from the CDU, Volker Kauder. From 2005 until 2009, he also served on the Committee on the Election of Judges (Wahlausschuss), which is in charge of appointing judges to the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany.In the 2009 elections Ramsauer was re-elected by 54.6 percent of the votes cast.
In 2007, Ramsauer accompanied Minister President Edmund Stoiber of Bavaria to a meeting with President Vladimir Putin. In July 2010, he accompanied Merkel on an official trip to Moscow for meetings with President Dmitry Medvedev.
Ramsauer is a native of the Upper Bavarian village of Traunwalchen which, from 1978, is the village is now part of Traunreut. He finished the Abitur at the Landschulheim State Marquartstein gym in 1973, completing it including a semester abroad in Eton College – and studied business economics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in which he earned his diploma in 1979 as well as his PhD in 1985.

Ramsauer was a member of his conservative Young Union (JU) youth organization in 1972, and joined was a member of the CSU after 1973. Ramsauer was elected Bavarian Vice-Chairman of the JU in 1983, and vice-chairman for the CSU in 2008.

Amid a 2014 debate over whether Germany needs to rethink its energy strategy and reduce its dependence on Russian gas imports due to the Ukrainian crisis, Ramsauer spoke out in favour of considering importing shale gas from the United States, or alternative embracing “domestic resources”. In November 2015, in his capacity as chairman of the German Parliament’s Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy, he agreed with his Russian counterpart Ivan Grachev to set up an informal German-Russian working group on energy cooperation, convening parliamentarians and business representatives from both countries.
