Peter John McGauran (born 16 November 1955), Australian politician, was a National Party member of the Australian House of Representatives representing the Division of Gippsland in Victoria from March 5 1983 until 9 April 2008. The McGauran brothers are the the former Senate President Julian McGauran. McGauran was raised in Yallourn, Victoria, and attended the Jesuit Xavier College in Melbourne as well as the University of Melbourne. He was a solicitor and barrister before becoming a politician.
On April 4, 2008. McGauran declared that he was planning on leaving parliament. He cited plans to pursue interest in the racing industry of thoroughbreds. The resignation became effective on the 9th of April. The incumbent was Darren Chester in the resulting June 2008 by-election.

In July 2005, he promoted to Cabinet and then Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry which he held until December 3, 2007. the Howard Government being lost in the election of Australian Labor Party under Kevin Rudd on the 24th of November election.
