Peter Aloysius McEvoy OBE (born 22 March 1953) was a renowned British amateur golfer over many years. He is now the golf club’s designer and golf administrator and a golf writer.

McEvoy is involved in designing golf courses for more than 20 years, working with his own business as well as in collaboration with other companies. McEvoy has designed many courses across the globe and has worked on courses such as Fota Island Golf Course which was the venue for in 2001 the Irish Open and other Irish tournaments.

In February 2008, McEvoy devised and launched PowerPlay Golf, a shortened version of golf in a bid to create golf’s version of Twenty20 cricket.

McEvoy has been named the captain for both Great Britain & Ireland teams for the 1999 and 2001 Walker Cups, which won both times. It is the first time that GB&I ever won consecutively in the competition. McEvoy was captain of the winning Great Britain & Ireland team in 1998’s Eisenhower Trophy tournament, making McEvoy the only person to win the single event in the team event, as a participant, and an event with a team as captain. McEvoy also captained the team in 2000 and GB&I came in second. In 2002 the year 2002, the year that Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales started sending teams of their own to the tournament instead an all-inclusive team, McEvoy was the captain of the English team.

McEvoy was the winner of The Amateur Championship in both 1977 and 1978. This started off an amazing playing career as an amateur. McEvoy was part of the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team five times between 1977 between 1977 and 1989. He also was a part of the five Eisenhower Trophy teams, including 1988, when he took home the individual event, while GB&I took home an event for teams. He was the lowest amateur in The Open Championship in 1978 and

The Association of Golf Writers named McEvoy as the winner of the Golf Writers’ Award, following two times the Amateur Championship and made the cut at the Masters. The award will be “awarded each year to the individual, born or resident in Europe, or the European team, who have made the most outstanding contribution to golf in the preceding 12 months.” McEvoy won the award again in 2001, when the award was presented to the winning 2003 Walker Cup team. McEvoy was awarded the award by the English Golf Union named McEvoy as the winner of the 1999 Gerald Micklem Award which is awarded the award to individuals who “made an outstanding contribution to further the interests of amateur golf in England.” McEvoy received the distinction of being named as the Officer of the Order of the British Empire on the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list for “services to golf.”

In 2002, McEvoy was named Chairman of the R&A Selection Committee, which chooses the members for Great Britain & Ireland amateur teams competing in various international events (such as the Walker Cup).
