Ittinuar (Inuktitut: piitir ittinoar; born on 19 January 1950) is a Canadian politician in Canada. It was the first Inuk in Canada to be elected an MP. He was also the representative of the area in Nunatsiaq at the House of Commons of Canada from 1979 until 1984.

The year 1993 was the time Ittinuar once more sought out the NDP nomination for Nunatsiaq however, he was unable to make it happen due to NDP head Audrey McLaughlin refusing to endorse his candidacy.

Ittinuar, the grandson of Danish explorer, Peter Freuchen, was born in Chesterfield Inlet, Northwest Territories (now Nunavut). He spent part of his youth and adolescence being educated in Ottawa, Ontario, with two childhood friends, Zebedee Nungak and Eric Tagoona. All three later were important figures in advocating for the rights of the Inuit. Unbeknownst to them, they had been relocated to Ottawa by federal government authorities, as part of an experiment in cultural assimilation. These actions and their consequences form the subject of the documentary The Experimental Eskimos (2009).

In 1984, Ittinuar was found guilty of breaches of confidence, forgery, and theft in connection with the use of the budget of his parliamentary colleagues to purchase a motor boat. In the wake of the case, He was exiled by his position in the Liberal Party caucus, and He became an independent during the final couple of months during his time in office. Ittinuar running for re- election in his 1984 presidential election but was defeated by Progressive Conservative candidate Thomas Suluk.

Ittinuar was first elected to the New Democratic Party. The New Democratic Party, but on the 26th of November 1982, he left the line to be a member of the Liberal caucus following Indian Affairs and Northern Development Minister John Munro announced plans to enhance Inuit self-government through the division of into two Northwest Territories into two (see Nunavut).

In 2008, while living in southern Ontario, Ittinuar ran unsuccessfully for the Green Party in the Nunavut riding in the federal election. He had previously sought and lost the Green Party nomination in the southern Ontario riding of Brant.
