Petar Dimitrov Zanev (Bulgarian: Pet’r Dimitrov Zanev ; born 18 October, 1985) is a Bulgarian professional footballer. He is a player in Bulgarian clubs such as the Bulgarian national team as well as CSKA Sofia and is usually employed as a left defender for both the country and club. For the club side , he usually plays as a centre-back in the past year.

On January 9, the 9th of January, 2008 Racing Ferrol confirmed Zanev is as a player on loan for the duration of the campaign. Zanev was first introduced on the 27th of January with a 3-1 win away against SD Eibar, coming on as an extra for Jonathan Pereira. Zanev was part of 14 games in the game for Ferrol during the Segunda Division.

In early July 2012, Zanev signed a three-year contract with Ukrainian club Volyn Lutsk.

Zanev signed with Russian Premier League side Amkar Perm on 30 June 2013 on a three-year deal. He was given the number 3 jersey.

Zanev was born in Blagoevgrad and was a part of the youth team of his local club Pirin at a young age. In early 2005 , he joined Litex Lovech.

In 2006, Hristo Stoichkov was called up as the left back position to the Bulgaria national team. Zanev made his debut as a player for Bulgaria during a friendlies game against Slovakia on November 15th, 2006. The result was a loss of 1:3 for Bulgaria. Zanev was dismissed (after receiving an additional warning) at first on October 15th 2013, during the 0-1 home defeat against Czech Republic Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier. After being omitted for this year’s Euro 2016 qualifiers, Zanev’s impressive performance during his time in the Russian Premier League saw him be recalled to the national team during his 2018 World Cup qualification matches. On the 7th of October, 2017, he was captain of the national team during the 0-1 home loss against France in the match in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Zanev returned to Litex Lovech at the end of the 2007–08 season. On 18 May 2011, he scored his second league goal in his career in a 4–1 win over Montana. Zanev’s third official goal for Litex came on 19 July 2011, netting the first of a 3–0 home win over Mogren Budva in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, this also being Zanev’s first European goal.
