Perquisite is one of the most popular and richest Record Producer who was born on April 13, 1982 in Amsterdam, Kingdom of the Netherlands. Pieter Perquin (born 13 April 1982, Amsterdam, Netherlands) is better known by the pseudonym Perquisite is a Dutch musician as well as a music producer and composer.

In 2009, Perquisite received an award called a Golden Calf (Dutch: Gouden Kalf), (which is the award given by the Netherlands Film Festival) for writing music to the movie ‘Carmen Van Het Noorden’. Following this, Perquisite composed the music for a number of Dutch film features, including the most notable ones are Hartenstraat (2014) as well as ‘Brasserie Vlantijn’ (2016), ‘Huisvrouwen Bestaan Niet’ (2017) and ‘Niemand In De Stad’ (2018). For the latter film, he won another Gouden Kalf award.

In 2012 Perquisite met singer Kris Berry at a weekly jam session in Amsterdam. They started writing songs together and decided to release an album. Joint effort ‘Lovestruck Puzzles’ was released in September 2013 via Unexpected Records.

Late 2015 Perquisite was invited to function as a judge for performances by students at the Conservatory in Enschede. There he first met Jeangu Macrooy, with whom a musical collaboration kicked off. Jeangu was signed to Unexpected Records and his debut EP ‘Brave Enough’, produced by Perquisite, was released in April 2016. The next year debut album ‘High On You’ was released, which was nominated for the Edison Pop in the category ‘Best Album’, followed by Jeangu’s second album ‘Horizon’. Both were produced and co-written by Perquisite. The Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, Jeangu Macrooy’s ‘Grow’, was also produced by Perquisite. On March 4th it was announced that besides that he would act as creative supervisor for Jeangu’s performance in the finals on May 16th 2020. Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was cancelled due to Covid-19, but Jeangu Macrooy will be performing at Eurovision Song Contest 2021, with a new song.

In 2003, Perquisite began collaborating in 2003 with Dutch DJ/rapper Pete Philly, and together they became their hip-hop group Pete Philly & Perquisite. They released two studio albums “Mindstate” and “Mystery Repeats and toured the globe in their band live for 5 consecutive years. They performed at numerous festivals that included Lowlands, North Sea Jazz and Sziget. The album they recorded “Mindstate” (2005) was met with a lot of critical acclaim. Talib Kweli declaring that “Musically, they’re far ahead of the pack.’. The studio album ‘Mystery Replays’ (2007) came in at second place on the Dutch charts of albums and stayed there for the entire duration of 25 weeks. Together, Pete & Perq won multiple awards such as the Dutch Silver Harp, and the Amsterdam prize for arts’. Following more than 300 shows across the Netherlands including as the back-up band to James Brown and Kanye West The duo ended their partnership in the fall of 2009 with their final “Final Celebration Tour”.

In 1996 at the age of 14years old, Perquisite began to make hip-hop beats. Because of his classical music background, Perquisite often integrated jazz and classical elements in his music. In 2001, he founded his own label Unexpected Records and made his debut with the Outta Nowhere EP, in collaboration with Dutch jazz saxophonist Benjamin Herman. Then, he composed and recorded a second solo EP, Double Vision, which was released in 2002.

Besides his career as an artist/producer/composer, Perquisite has been running his own record label Unexpected Records since 2001. Perquisite is also responsible for managing Pete Philly & Perquisite and Kris Berry & Perquisite and is currently the manager of Jeangu Macrooy. In addition as an active member of the board of the Dutch copyright organization BUMA/STEMRA between 2013 and the year 2018. In 2015, Perquisite and a host of different performers (including Tjeerd Bomhof, Torre Florim and Arrien Molema) founded BAM!, the Dutch Songwriters Society and for which Perquisite was BAM!’s first president.

Right after his first film music assignment, Perquisite started working on his solo album ‘Across’, that saw its release in October 2010. On ‘Across’ Perquisite collaborated with twelve different Dutch vocalists, among them Torre Florim (De Staat), Cato van Dijck (My Baby) and Janne Schra.
