Percy Lenard Howard (born January 21, 1952, in Savannah, Georgia) is an ex- American football player who played in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. Howard was a surprise superstar with the Cowboys in Super Bowl X. He played basketball in the NCAA tournament on the campus of Austin Peay University.

The following year , big expectations were set for Howard however, during the 1976 preseason match with the Denver Broncos, he severely injured his right knee running in a reverse. The rest of the season working to heal the knee but was injured again in the veteran’s orientation during 1997’s training camp. This caused him to be out for the duration of the season. In Super Bowl XII he served the Cowboys as a scout as he was recovering from the injury. He was let go by Dallas prior to the 1978 season, but was signed as a player by The Green Bay Packers, but failed to pass a physical test with the Packers because his knee had not fully recovered.

While Howard did not have a football career during his years at Austin Peay University, the Dallas Cowboys saw a tremendous athlete and signed Howard to an undrafted free-agent contract in 1975. Howard became one of few college athletes who made it to the NFL without ever playing college football.
