Barny quit in June 1999, at his age of 33 after three top-flight seasons at C.F. Os Belenenses and one with C.D. Aves for his first and sole second division debut. He was the winner of the two Portuguese Cups from 1990 to 1992, along with Estrela as well as Boavista.
