He is currently the head coach at Ludogorets Razgrad. He is well-known for implementing an offensive football approach to the teams he coaches.

As a player Vrba was a player for several clubs, including Banik Ostrava. As an administrator, he supervised numerous Czech as well as Slovak clubs, with the Czech First League record of five seasons as the head coach of FC Viktoria Plzen, whom was able to win two league titles, a cup championship and three consecutive years participating in the UEFA Europa League knockout stage which is a record in the entire Czech club.

He coached Viktoria Plzen to the victory in the Czech Cup for the first time in club history. He was named the Czech Coach of the Year in 2010. In the season 2010/2011 in the Czech First League, he took the league title with Viktoria Plzen for the first time in club history. Vrba was named “Czech Coach of the Year” in 2012, which signifies the third time in a row that in which he was awarded the title. He played Plzen to the league’s second award in 2013. In October of 2013, Vrba was the captain of Plzen to a 152-game streak of top- flight matches and set a new league record. Although he was on contract with Plzen for a period of time, in June 2015 Plzen’s Czech Football Association activated a buy-out clause and paid the club 8 million Czech koruna . He was appointed his new coach for Plzen’s Czech Republic national team in November 2013. His final game as manager of Plzen was the 13-14 UEFA Champions League group stage match in the group stage match against CSKA Moscow which Plzen won 1-1 with a goal in the last minute by Tomas Wagner, thus earning the club a place at the Europa League knockout stage. Then, at the end of the game, fans raised a banner that read “always remember that it wasn’t wasted time”.
