Pavel Paulavich Sankovich (Belarusian: Pavel Paulavich Sankovich ; born 29 June 1990) is a Belarusian swimmer who is specialized in the sprint backstroke and butterfly events. He represented his country of birth Belarus in three different editions of the Olympic Games (2008, 2012 and 2016) and has also won seven bronze medals at important international competitions in both the short and long courses of the European Championships.

Sankovich displayed a remarkable improvement in the international arena during his 2014. European Championships in Berlin, Germany in which he smashed through his 52 second barrier during the 100-meter butterfly to set his own lifetime record (51.92) and earn his first bronze medal of the competition. The 2015 season was an incredible feat for Sankovich as he set an all-time best and recorded the world’s third-fastest times (51.57) for the 100 m butterfly event at the Belarus Open, but could not match his competitor Yauhen Tsurkin who was quicker by 0.13 of seconds, and lowered the Belarusian record.

Pavel is now co-owner (with his wife) of the United Swim Club in Tallahassee and was named in 2019 as the head swim coach for Maclay School in Tallahassee, Florida.

Sankovich was born in January 2013. He was a student at the Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, where he majored in social sciences. While competing in the Florida State Seminoles under head coach Frank Bradley, Sankovich had earned five individual events All-America distinctions in the NCAA Championships, and set five records at the university for at least two seasons running in 100m backstroke 100 m butterfly and 200 m individual individual medley.

Sankovich participated in his first Belarusian team, at 18-year-old, in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and competed in the 100-meter backstroke and the Medley relay. Prior to the Games Sankovich broke the Belarusian record and smashed the FINA B-cut time of 56.10 during the Belarusian National Championships in Minsk. In the 100-meter backstroke Sankovich was second, trailing the Colombian Omar Pinzon by 0.28 of an inch in 55.39 minutes, yet was unable to make it to the semifinals. Four years after he competed in his final Olympics, Sankovich qualified for his second Belarusian team as a 22-year-old at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in 2012, after he beat his FINA B-standard timing at 54.56 in the 100-meter backstroke for men. Sankovich was in the third heat of his 100m backstroke and took the title by setting a new Belarusian time of 54.53 However, he narrowly missed out on a place in the finals by one hundredths of one second (0.01) ahead of Olympic experienced Aristeidis Grigoriadis, placing eighteenth among 43 swimmers in the preliminary. In the 100m butterfly, Sankovich won the race with a score of 34th overall, just seven hundredths of one second (0.07) ahead of Dominik Meichtry from Switzerland, who had 53.47.

At the 2016 Olympics, he took part in the 100 m butterfly, finishing in 28th place.
