Pavan Sukhdev is one of the most popular and richest Economist who was born on March 30, 1960 in Delhi, India. A banker from the world, Pavan was deeply involved in the development of India’s interest rate, currency and derivatives markets during the mid-nineties. He was involved in working with the Indian regulators and market participants. He has been a part of various Reserve Bank of India (RBI) committees to promote the growth of India’s financial market, which includes the Sodhani Committee on Foreign Exchange Markets. In 1997, Pavan was a co-founder of FIMMDA (Fixed Income Money Market and Derivatives Association of India) India’s professional association that deals with fixed-income markets, derivatives and money markets. He was a proponent of the introduction of the Overnight Indexed Swap (OIS) to India and it is now the world’s most liquid instruments for interest rates swaps.

UNEP has appointed Pavan as the head of its most important initiative to show that greening of the economy is not an obstacle to growth but instead a catalyst to grow and a source of jobs, and an approach to alleviate poverty. The report’s final version Towards a Green Economy of the Green Economy Initiative was presented at the UNEP’s general Council meeting in Nairobi on February 11, 2011. Pavan continues to be a strong supporter of this initiative as an UNEP Goodwill Ambassador.

He is the Founder-CEO of GIST Advisory, a specialist consulting firm which helps governments and corporations discover, measure, value, and manage their impacts on natural and human capital. In recognition of his continuing work in helping governments and corporations transition towards a Green Economy, UNEP appointed Pavan as the UNEP Goodwill Ambassador in the year 2012. He was also selected as the “Personality of the Year” by, Environmental Finance in the year 2010. The Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) have awarded Pavan their 2011 Medal.

From 2017 he is president of the World Wide Fund for Nature and succeeded Yolanda Kakabadse in this position. His first term is about to end 2021.

Pavan was the chair of The Global Agenda Council on Biodiversity and Ecosystems for the World Economic Forum (2009-2011) to analyze the challenges of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degrading loss in the context global risk and global cooperation. He addresses the annual Forum meetings in Davos.
