Paul Jarvis is one of the most popular and richest Cricketer who was born on June 29, 1965 in Redcar, England, United Kingdom. Paul William Jarvis (born 29 June 1965) is an ex- English cricketer who played in nine Tests as well as 16 ODIs in England between 1988 and 1993.
The ban on rebels was lifted following South African’s return to cricket in the Test format, and Jarvis was selected to travel to India in 1992 and Sri Lanka in 1992-93. He was a fast bowler and also took four wickets during two Tests in a loss and also won his man-of-the-match prize by taking 5 wickets in 35 overs during the game against India at Bangalore. He was dropped in the final Test against India but returned to score three wickets for 76 in the final Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, but he did not play Test cricket ever again.
In 215 first-class matches he took 654 wickets, with a best of 7–55, at an average of 28.92, and scored 3,373 runs at 16.78, with a best score of 80 for Yorkshire against Northants in 1992. He played in four youth Test matches for England in 1982 and 1983. His career was hampered by a succession of injuries to his slender 5′ 10″ frame, but his whippy athletic bowling won him 81 wickets in 1987, and his match winning 4 for 43 in the final of the Benson and Hedges Cup, helped win him selection on England’s winter tour of Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia.
Jarvis’s decision to tour South Africa (announced on the last day of the Old Trafford test against Australia in 1989) was widely perceived to be a failure for English speed bowling The test record of Jarvis until that point showed that he was no way certain of his place in the team. This was more based on selectorial whims than the actual performance. The beginning of his Test career was shattered by hard-hitting opponents (West India and Australia) and Jarvis was not able to “fill his boots” (as many others did) against opponents with weaker strengths.

A quick and skiddy right-handed bowler and tail end batsman who was right- handed The young man earned his Yorkshire debut at 16 years and 75 days. He was the oldest player of the time to represent the county. He was widely regarded as a Test star however he did not make himself an integral part in the England team. He was a part of Yorkshire from 1981 until 1993. He won his first cap for the team in 1986 after he scored 11 wickets in 92 innings against Middlesex. The youngest of players to achieve an hat-trick at the Sunday League in 1982 and during the County Championship in 1985, however, as Yorkshire was tired of his frequent injuries the club let him take on Sussex from 1994 until 1998. There were 51 of his victims during the first season and was awarded another county cap however, he was plagued by injuries in the following seasons. The experiences he had at Somerset between 1999 and 2002 were similar to those of the previous year, but it was still possible to be a powerful for one day cricket and he demonstrated this that he could be in 1999’s NatWest Trophy final against Gloucestershire. He was a part of Wellington at the time of New Zealand in the 1996/97 season, and then spent several winters playing for clubs across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
The Test debut was at Lancaster Park in Christchurch against New Zealand, but although he scored six wickets in the two first games played on the sluggish pitch and a sloppy pitch, he was omitted to play the test that would be his last. He was back in the match against the powerful West Indies team in the home series in 1988, registering his Test highest scores with bat and ball, scoring 4 wickets for 107 and getting 29 not out at Lord’s. A back injury prevented him from participating in the series and the player was out of Test cricket for the duration of a year prior to returning in Australia for two games in the disastrous 1989 Ashes series. After just one wicket (and the one that was an “drag on” (Geoff Marsh was the batsman)) at Edgbaston He was dropped again and decided to join the rebel tour of South Africa, which saw him being banned for three consecutive seasons from the England Test squad. When asked why he was to South Africa, Jarvis replied, “to pay off my mortgage in one go”.
He retired from the game in 2000, and worked in a firm which helps current players find agent representation. In 2009, he was appointed Director of Cricket at Framlingham College in Suffolk. He coached the England Ladies cricket team in 2011. Paul now owns his own Boutique hotel and coffee shop in Wiltshire.
