Paul Gilchrist is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on January 5, 1951 in Hertford, England, United Kingdom. Paul Anthony Gilchrist (born 5 January 1951) is a former professional footballer who won the FA Cup with Southampton in 1976.
His most significant contribution to Saints history was during the final stages of his participation in the FA Cup final in 1976 in which he recorded two goals. The first of which was the opening goal which was which was scored from 25 yards in the semi-final game against Crystal Palace. Southampton was able to win in the final match at Wembley with a 1-0 win over Manchester United on 1 May 1976.
Despite the fact that Bobby Smith was in charge of team affairs at 3rd Division Swindon, it was general manager Danny Williams who influenced the signing of Gilchrist in August 1978. Smith didn’t take well to this, and within a month, he had bought Andy Rowland from Bury.
He made his final appearance for Portsmouth in a Football League Cup defeat at Swindon in August 1978, when he scored one of Portsmouth’s goals. This prompted Swindon to offer to buy him.
Gilchrist was a short unhappily time at the end of 1976 , on loans to Alahfi at Saudi Arabia, before moving to Portsmouth in the month of March.

In September of 1970 Gilchrist joined the league club Yeovil Town, initially on loan (he played in four games),Gilchrist joined the 4th Division Doncaster Rovers in the 1971 closing season. He had a decent success in the season 1971-72 with 8 goals scored in his 22 appearances which led Lawrie McMenemy, who was the manager, to sign him to 1st Division Southampton.
He was signed by Saints at a cost of Rs.30,000 in March of 1972. Over subsequent five seasons, he was frequently playing in and out of the first team until they were cut from Division 1 at the close in the season 1973-1974. He was a prolific ball-winner on the mid field and was able to run on to crosses in the box and showed great close control for large a player. In the words of Lawrie McMenemy his assessment of him as “One of the quiet brigade but a likeable, popular player”. He sustained a few injuries during his time at Southampton but he managed in scoring 22 goals over his 120 games.
By the end of the 1977–78 season, Gilchrist had been joined at Portsmouth by his fellow ex-Saint, Bobby Stokes and St. John had been replaced as manager by Jimmy Dickinson, but he could not prevent Portsmouth being relegated into Division 4. By then, Gilchrist had played his last league game for the club.
