Paul John Fletcher MBE (born 13 January 1951) is an English professional footballer who retired and was striker. He was head of the executive team at Burnley. In February 2018 , he released alongside Alastair Campbell a co-written book about terror and football in the 1970s called Saturday Bloody Saturday. The novel, in the very first day following publication, was included in The Sunday Times Top Ten Bestsellers.
The 1st of January in 2006 was the day Paul was asked to be a member of his position on the Board of Coventry City Football Club as the Managing Director. Then, in October of 2007, after nine months of negotiations with different groups, Paul resigned in protest of the owners of the stadium, Arena Coventry Limited, for refusing to take a proposal for a purchase made by an American consortium to purchase each of the stadiums, the Ricoh Arena as well as Coventry City FC.
Two months later he was invited to take up a position as Chief Executive at Burnley Football Club. In May 2009 whilst under Paul’s stewardship as CEO, Burnley was promoted into the Barclays Premier League for the first time in 34 years. In late 2011 he resigned this position to take up a new role as Managing Director (and co-founder, with Burnley Director Brendan Flood) of UCFB (University & College of Football Business) located at Turf Moor Stadium. In 2011 UCFB won a FA Football Award for “Most innovative use of a football stadium on non-matchdays”. In February 2013 UCFB announced its second campus in partnership with Wembley Stadium. In 2014 UCFB relocated from Turf Moor Burnley to The Etihad Stadium Manchester. Both campuses now (in February 2018) have attracted about 2,000 students (combined).
The year 1996 was when the he returned to his former Club Bolton Wanderers F.C. as the Chief Executive at the brand new PS40 million Reebok Stadium, the BCI Building of the Year in 1998. In 1999, following two years at Reebok as Chief Executive, he was contacted to join the FA to become the Commercial Director of the newly constructed PS500 million Wembley National Stadium. After 18 months, as the cost of construction increased, he walked off the project, saying that he wanted for more quality time spent with family and wife enjoying sunshine in the Lancashire sun’.

Paul Fletcher attended Smithills Technical School in Bolton and, in 1967, joined his hometown team Bolton Wanderers. In the year 1970, he became one of the most expensive players when the club signed him to Burnley Football Club for a record club price. Over the next ten years the player played over 400 times mostly in the former First Division – now named the Premier League. After winning four England U23 international caps, He was selected for Don Revie’s England team, however an injury to his knee was serious and prevented him from an all-inclusive England selection. Another serious injury to his leg caused him to retire early at 32 years old.
