In the qualifying rounds to the Australian Goldfields Open Davison won his first match of the season , 5-4 in a match against Andrew Norman, making a break of 141 during the match. Additional victories against Peter Lines and Mark King were the next to get Davison to the main draw for a ranking event twice in the span of his professional career. In the first round , he broke 112 and 124 to take the lead over Mark Davis 4-3 with his opponent required a snooker, with only one red left. Davis was able to get the snooker on the final pink, and then put the black and pink in pots to draw the match even.
