He has visited regularly Bayerisches Geoinstitut Bayerisches Geoinstitut (Bayreuth, Germany) in the University of Bayreuth since 1998 to conduct deformation tests with very high pressures.

Cordier graduated with a master’s diploma in materials science in the year 1985 at the School of Engineers of Lille (EUDIL) as well as the DEA in the University of Lille 1 in the field of materials science. He wrote a doctoral dissertation on the crystallization of quartz led by Professor Jean-Claude Doukhahan in the University of Lille 1 in 1989.

The year 1989 was the first time Cordier did post-doctoral research under Prof. Arthur Heuer (Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Case School of Engineering, Cleveland, USA). In the following year, he was a part of his first class at University of Lille 1 as an assistant professor. He completed his habilitation to conduct research at Lille and was appointed an assistant professor in the year 1996. He was the head of the mineral research group physical sciences at the ‘Unite Materialux Research Institute for Transformations’ located at the University of Lille 1 from 1999 until the year 2017.

Cordier has received French recognition for distinguished service in education (Ordre des Palmes Académiques, Chevalier in 2008; Officier in 2013), and the Grand Prix Frédéric Kuhlmann of the Société des Sciences, de l’Agriculture et des Arts de Lille (SSAAL) in 2015.
