Patrick Ax (born 1 December 1979 in Groningen) is an Dutch retired soccer player who played for various clubs in his homeland and has also been a captain for the Netherlands U-21 team.
Ax came back to De Graafschap in 2004 and was a part of two seasons at the club he played for in the past. The first season was a disaster with De Graafschap finish in a unsatisfactory 17th position which resulted in being dropped back to Eerste Divisie. After one season in the second tier Ax made the move to fellow Eerste Divisie side Go Ahead Eagles. Ax was a part of the team from Deventer, before declaring his retirement in 2008.
Ax has also played Beach soccer for the Netherlands, representing his country in 3 matches at the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti.
After his loan move Ax was able to return to Vitesse and was sold to the opponents NEC Nijmegen. There, Ax had the most productive time of his career, playing for four seasons and appearing frequently in the team. The 2002-03 season Ax was instrumental in helping NEC to finish the fifth spot in the league. This resulted the club in UEFA Cup football the following season. NEC was defeated by Wisla Krakow in the opening game of 2003-04’s UEFA Cup, with Ax appearing as a substitute for both legs of the game and receiving an red card at the end of the first. However, injuries began to affect Ax, and Ax later quit NEC after the expiration the contract the year 2004.

Ax started his career with his hometown club FC Groningen, making his league debut against PSV Eindhoven on 25 August 1996. Although he played in only a handful of games however, he was the target of Vitesse Arnhem, who signed the left-winger in 1998. Ax did not, however, made one appearance during his debut season. He then was transferred by De Graafschap for the following season. In this season, he scored five goals in his 16 appearances.
Ax participated at his participation in the 2002 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship in the Netherlands. He scored one goal during a qualifying match in Ireland. Republic of Ireland.
Ax retired from professional football at the relatively young age of 29. Ax played amateur football for Dijkse Boys. He helped the Helmond-based team to achieve promotion to the Topklasse for the 2010–11 season, the highest level of amateur football in the Netherlands. From 2010 through 2014 Ax played for TEC.
