Patrick Michael O’Donnell (born February 22nd 1991) is an American football punter who plays for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected in the Bears in the sixth round of 2014’s NFL Draft. He played in the NCAA football tournament on The University of Cincinnati and the University of Miami.
O’Donnell was selected with the Chicago Bears with the 191st overall selection during the 6th round of 2014’s NFL Draft, the only punter chosen in the draft and the first player to be selected from the Bears since Todd Sauerbrun’s selection in 1996. He signed a four-year deal on May 13th the 13th of May, 2014.
In Week 5 of the 2017 season against the Minnesota Vikings, he threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Benny Cunningham on a fake. Later in the year, O’Donnell served as kickoff specialist against the San Francisco 49ers while kicker Cairo Santos was nursing a groin injury. O’Donnell finished 2017 with 87 punts for 4,097 net yards for a 47.0 average.
On March 15, 2018, O’Donnell signed a one-year contract extension with the Bears worth $1.5 million. After his contract expired following the 2018 season, he received a two-year extension on March 18, 2019.
In his first season of the year 2014 O’Donnell was able to record 71 punts and 3,107 net yards, which was an 43.8 average. O’Donnell was named as a two-star prospect by Rivals.com He signed his commitment to University of Cincinnati on December 29th in 2008. He first made an appearance with the Bearcats in 2009, as a true freshman in the game against Southeast Missouri State, and was in three games prior to getting injured, which led the player to redshirt. O’Donnell was the his primary punter during the 2011 and 2010 seasons. In the second season the Bearcats lead the nation in punting efficiency, and O’Donnell had an average of 43.8 yards of punting and was the top punter in America with punts that were fifty yards or greater. Additionally, O’Donnell was the kicker on kickoffs, with an average of 64.2 yards for each kick. O’Donnell completed 2011 with all-Big East distinction, and was a semifinalist in the Ray Guy Award. The year 2012 was a success for O’Donnell. O’Donnell was averaging punter of 41.8 yards. He was named to the second team all-Big East.

O’Donnell finished his career at Cincinnati with an average of 42.6 annual average for punting. O’Donnell completed his degree from Cincinnati with an MBA in leadership in the month of April. He then transferred to Miami as an undergraduate student. As a member of Miami’s Hurricanes, O’Donnell served as punter, kickoff specialist and holder. O’Donnell set a school record of 47.1 punting percentage, and was named first- team all-ACC as well as the Hurricanes special Teams MVP towards the close in the season of 2013. O’Donnell ended the college season with the school record of 43.5 yards punting average.
