He was previously the trainer at the field and track of Louisiana State University (LSU) where he took home 27 national championships.
In 2004, he was employed in 2004 by Texas A&M as head track and field coach. During his time in Texas A&M, his teams have placed in the top ten of NCAA competitions 14 times, and have won 8 Big 12 titles, earning Henry the title of Big 12 Coach of the Year eight times. in 2009 and 2010,, and 2011, he was awarded both women’s and men’s outdoor national championships.
In 2006, Henry served as head track & field coach for the U.S. Team at the IAAF World Cup. He was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

Henry started his career as a coach in the year he was at Hobbs (NM) High School in New Mexico, where he coached his team to state titles in five different occasions. The year 1983 saw him transferred into Blinn College, located in Brenham, Texas. Three years after his arrival He was the first to win the two National Junior College Titles.
In 1987 the year he was recruited by LSU for track and field and cross-country teams. In his first season at LSU He won a national title and three SEC titles, and was awarded two awards for conference coaches of the year. Henry has won 27 national titles and 19 SEC titles 15, SEC coach of the year awards , and five National Coach of the Year distinctions at LSU. Henry would win both women’s and the men’s national titles in 1989 and 1990.
