Pat Heffernan is one of the most popular and richest Hurler who was born on January 2, 1970 in Kilfinane, County Limerick, Ireland. Pat Heffernan (born 2 January 1970 in Kilfinane, County Limerick, Ireland) is an Irish selection officer for hurling and a former player. He was a former selector of the Limerick senior Hurling team. He is the manager of the Mullinahone the senior team. He also is a teacher of Geography in The Patrician Academy Mallow Secondary School.

In 1994, Heffernan was a major player of the full-forward line . He was a part of the first Munster final. The provincial whipping boys Clare were the opposition and the result was a loss. A score of 0-25 to 2-10 line handed Limerick the win , and also gave Heffernan the first Munster winners medal. Limerick was then able to play Offaly at offaly’s All-Ireland final. It appeared as if Heffernan’s team were set to create history and claim the title. Limerick held a five-point advantage with only a couple of minutes remaining. Offaly was able to come alive after the Johnny Dooley goal from a close-in free. After the puck-out, Offaly played the ball in the across the field before Pat O’Connor struck for a second goal. The Offaly forwards added five unanswered goals with remaining time to earn an impressive 3-16 win over 2-13. It was a devastating loss for Limerick which appeared to think they were in the hunt for The Liam MacCarthy Cup.

In late 2007 Heffernan was appointed manager of the Kerry senior hurling team for a one-year term. His first season in charge got off to a good start as ‘the Kingdom’ only lost one game in the group stage of the National Hurling League. This allowed Heffernan’s side to advance to the semi-final of the competition, however, Carlow won the game by 1-19 to 3-4. In the subsequent Christy Ring Cup Kerry topped their group and qualified for a home quarter- final against old rivals Carlow. It was one of the toughest draws and, in spite of home advantage, Kerry were heavily defeated by 2-4 to 1-14.

After retiring Heffernan pursued a career in coaching, gaining experience in his native Limerick where he became involved with several clubs, including Kilmallock, Murroe-Boher and his native Blackrock. He enjoyed little success with these early endeavours. In 2007 Heffernan took charge of Bride Rovers GAA Club in east Cork and guided the team to the semi-finals of the county senior championship.

A skilled forward, Heffernan had an enviable playing career with clubs such as Blackrock, UCC and Mallow and also at the inter-county level for Limerick. He was a prominent member of the Limerick team in the 90s and was awarded a Munster title.
