The year 2001 was the first time she participated at her first European Championships for athletes younger than 23 years old, competing with the 100 and 200 meters and reaching the semi-finals at both times. A year later, Pascal van Assendelft participated in the World Championships in Paris as part of the Dutch 4 x 100m relay team, along alongside Jacqueline Poelman, Annemarie Kramer and Joan van den Akker. Although the team failed to make it to the finals, they submitted a nomination to participate in the 2004 Summer Olympics which resulted in the 12th time of the twenty teams competing. The time of 43.96 was the most fast season time for all the Dutch four.
