Park is born in Changnyeong, South Gyeongsangnam province on the 22nd of January, 1960. After her time at Sudo Girl’s High School, she earned a B.S. Geography at Kyung Hee University and a master’s degree in journalism in Sogang University’s Graduate School of Sogang University.

Park began her political career in 2004 when she was named the spokesperson of The Uri Party. She was elected to the 17th National Assembly in South Korea and was chosen as a percentageal representative that same year. Her district is in the second electoral section in Guro-gu (also known as Guro Eul(eul Yi ), where there is an industrial complex where SMEs and startups reside.

In March 2019, she was appointed the Minister of SMEs and Startups. She was also the first South Korean minister to serve in the Stewardship Board at a Davos Forum Platform.

Park was the chairperson for the 19th National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee and of the party’s Special Committee on chaebol reform. She was among the leading opponents of South Korea’s largest the chaebol group, Samsung Group and was notable for her stance regarding the controversial SDS deal and the profits made from a deal in 1999 that was ruled by the courts to be illegal. She played an integral role in the passage of bills that dealt with economic democracy while she was Chair of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee in 2013.
