Pulici was born the 27th of April, 1950 in Roncello which was a small town at the time, located in the Province of Milan (now Province of Monza). The first time he was approached by Internazionale but he was disqualified by the club as they considered that his left-foot only shooting was not as good as the skill of their forward Sandro Mazzola. Torino purchased him from Legnano in 1967 . The club’s then manager, Edmondo the Fabbri launched his player in the 1968-69 season , as an official in the Torino-Cagliari team (0-0). In the initial four seasons with Torino (three as a starter) the player was involved in 79 league matches however, he only scored nine goals because of technical issues and a lack of confidence before the goal.
In all, he participated in 19 matches and scored five goal for the Italy national team. He was in the squad during the two World Cups (1974 and 1978) but didn’t take part in the game at either of the tournaments. On the international stage, Pulici played in 19 games and scored five goals. He was often used together with Graziani. In the absence of a repeat performance that he had at Torino the club, he was usually substituted with Roberto Bettega.
He played with Torino for 14 seasons, disputed 437 official games and scored 172 goals between league and cup competitions. In addition to the Scudetto won in 1975–76, he finished 2nd place in the league in 1976–77 and won a Coppa Italia trophy in 1971.
In subsequent years his number of goals diminished, with a minimum of 3 goals in the 1979–80 season, which coincided with the departure of Torino head coach Luigi Radice. In 1982, he was allowed to leave Torino for free, moving to Udinese; after a season in Friuli, he went to Fiorentina, with whom he ended his playing career.
Pulici began his international debut on the 30th of March 1973, when he scored the 5-0 victory over Luxembourg in an World Cup qualifier in Genoa. The first goal he scored was two goals on December 30 1975, in a 3-2 friendly win against Greece in Florence which was his seventh cap. He scored the following two matches in the United States in the games against Portugal in addition to his home country of the United States.

Paolo Pulici (Italian pronunciation: [‘pa:olo’pu:litSi] ; born on the 27th of April, 1950 at Roncello) is a Italian football manager and former player who was striker. With 172 goals across every competition, he’s the all-time record goal scorer for Torino.
In 1972, manager Gustavo Giagnoni excluded Pulici from the squad for two months. He devoted him to the development of his technique with the help of coaching staff of the young team. In 1972-73, he was the leading scorer in Serie A with 17 goals alongside Gianni Rivera as well as Giuseppe Savoldi. The same feat was repeated during 1974-1975 (18 goal) and 1975-76 in which the team scored 21 goals in the league won by Torino who played with striker Francesco Graziani. The two were dubbed “i gemelli del gol” (“the goal twins”) Pulici’s goal made the difference in the final game of the season’s match with A.C. Cesena.
He had several nicknames: amongst the most famous were Pupi and the one created for him by the journalist Gianni Brera, Puliciclone (a pun on his family name, Pulici, and Ciclone, Italian for “cyclone”). Plus, he shared with his teammate Francesco Graziani the collective nickname I gemelli del gol (Italian for “The Twins of Goal”). At international level, he represented Italy at two FIFA World Cups, first in 1974, and subsequently in 1978, where he helped the team to a fourth-place finish. Since 1990 he has taught the game of football at Sportiva Tritium 1908 in Trezzo sull’Adda, at the football school that bears his name.
