Pantelis Kafes is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on June 24, 1978 in Veroia, Greece. Shortly after signing with AEK in the same way, and still wearing his number one Kafes joined the first team and became an integral part of AEK’s quest to win the title, but they ended up finishing second place. The next season, on January 12, 2008 Kafes got his goal of the season for AEK in the match against Veria. On the 30th of March in that same season, Kafes struck against former team Olympiacos and scored to put AEK 4-1 ahead. AEK began the season in first spot on the Greek League, but after the legal battle against Apollon Kalamaria and Olympiacos for the illegal use of one of their players (Roman Wallner) during the 1-1 Apollon Kalamaria win earlier in the season, Olympiacos were awarded the 3 points during the court case, having a two-point advantage over AEK Olympiacos. For his 3rd season as”Dikefalos Aetos, “Dikefalos-Aetos”, AEK did not perform to the level of their expectations. They ended up finishing third, Kafes was a key player in their revival, and was captain at times. On June 12, 2009 Kafes agreed to sign a three-year contract, which is expected to keep him in AEK until 2012. Kafes agreed to lower his earnings to assist the club’s financial problems. On the 11th of July 2009 Kafes received the armband of captain, and will become the captain of the club for the coming season. On September 13, 2009 Kafes got his goal for the first time during the 2009-10 season against Iraklis. Kafes also scored two goal during the game against PAS Giannina. Kafes has been a star during the 2009-10 season and has been a quiet player playing as an attacking midfielder as well as numerous assistance on behalf of his fellow players. In the summer of 2010, Kafes found his ex- teammate Traianos Dellas who was a joy to AEK Athens. They also were winners of EURO 2004 with the Greek national team. The 30th of April in 2011 Kafes took home his first Greek Cup scoring AEK’s 3rd goal in a 0-3 victory against Atromitos. Kafes made his debut goal during the 2011/12 season in Panionios in a 1-0 home victory on 5/2/12. This season marked his final as a player for AEK.

He was always on hand during the first season of his time at Olympiacos when they finished second at the Alpha Ethniki in 2003, and he made the debut UEFA Champions League appearances, five total. Kafes was a regular in all of Olympiacos league games in their quest for the domestic double. He had only a minor injury prevented him from equalizing previous records in Europe which was where he took part in every one of Olympiacos’ Champions League and UEFA Cup matches. The same goes for the following season, 2005-2006. Kafes played in 22 league games, earning another double and scored two memorable goals from the edge of the field in the UEFA Champions League. Olympiacos at the UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid. The goal was scored by Raul on the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. On the 19th of October, 2005, he also scored in the Olympique Lyonnais match. Kafes was dismissed from Olympiacos during the 2006-07 season. A couple of days later, he signed a two-year deal with the AEK Athens side that was a competitor to Olympiacos.

Pantelis Kafes left AEK in June. He trialed with Rangers F.C. in Scotland but did not sign with the financially troubled club. After being free agent for 2 months, on 31 August he joined back to his hometown team Veria FC. He scored his first goal with his new team 6 October 2012 against Atromitos and on 12 December 2012, he made his debut in Greek Cup with Veria FC against Thrasyvoulos and 22 December, he helped his new team to qualify for the stage and for the quarter-final of the Greek Cup. He was released during the winter break and in February 2013, he trialed with Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.

Kafes made his debut on prominence on Alpha Ethniki scene in 1998-99 and scored seven goals. Kafes continued to impress and was a key player in PAOK’s 2002-03 and 2000-01 Greek Cup triumphs. However, his time in Thessaloniki was a bitter end as the club resigned him from his contract following an unpaid wage dispute. Olympiacos came in with a contract for three years.
