Pablo Andres Contreras Fica (Spanish pronunciation”‘pablo kon’treras” ; born on September 11, 1978) is a Chilean retired soccer player who was a player for Melbourne Victory and the Chile national team in the position of centre back. Also, he can play as a right-back. Contreras started his career with Colo- Colo. He received his first senior award in 1997 when he took home the Chilean Primera Division title. He also took home the Olympic bronze medal for Chile during the Sydney Games. Contreras made the move into Europe in 1999 and signed with French club Monaco which won his first title in the Ligue 1 in his first season.
Contreras made his debut with the Chile team on February 17 1999 in a game against Guatemala. He was later selected for the 1999 Copa America in Paraguay, helping Chile finish fourth in the standings.
A Chilean international on 66 occasions, Contreras was part of squad that earned the bronze medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics at Sydney. In his country, Pablo is nicknamed Espartaco by Chilevisión relator Paulo Flores specifically, referred him as the Spartan hero of his national team during the matches, when Contreras was under the orders of Claudio Borghi in Chile.
