In July 2009, he was appointed manager of The Menorcan squad Atletic de Ciutadella who play in the Spanish Segunda Division B but was dismissed in September 2009 since he was not holding the proper UEFA Pro license. Asensio was later granted the UEFA Pro Licence ‘A’ in the year 2011 and was then a coach in Southport with the direction of manager Liam Watson, where he was acknowledged as an integral part of Southport’s preparation to the play-offs in 2012. From August 2012 , he helped in training at Macclesfield Town under manager Steve King before being appointed the first team coach on the 17th of October 2012. He was fired alongside King on the 3rd April of 2013.
